Who needs a passport?
- Anyone traveling outside of the United States
- Even if you are just going to Mexico or Canada, you still need one
Why do I need a passport?
- Because they won't let you leave the country unless you have one.
- Also good for if you get yourself into trouble, people know you are an American citizen.
What do I need to get a passport?
- Proof of citizenship: A certified birth certificate OR an older passport (not a old ripped up one though, because that doesn't count.
- An application for passport. Can download it at: http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/forms_847.html.
- Proof of identity: A driver's license, naturalization certificate, previous US passport
- Two Passport photos. (Some passport application places have places where you can take pictures right there. It should say on the listing.)
- Social Security number
- Passport Fee: $97

When should I get a passport?
*3-4 months before you go overseas.
*Otherwise, don't hesitate to expedite your passport so you get it faster.
- Be aware, expediting your passport adds another $60 on to the fee. But if you don't have your passport, you can't go overseas at all.
